Reweti brings a new lens to the tools of colonial representations of Māori, granting revised agency through a reimagined process. In these works, glass plate negatives are replaced with pounamu — a taonga. Cropped toroa (Southern Royal Albatross) skulls feature on the plates, as symbolic reference points in opposing knowledge systems. The titles, direct references to Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner, allude to the role of language in romanticised mythmaking.
