Cerys Wiles is an artist of English, Irish, and Scottish descent who relocated to Aotearoa in 2007. Their practice explores belonging through process-based making, drawing on personal, cultural, and geological histories of place.
Now based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, the South Coast has become their primary place of making, where the abundance of greywacke and the ephemerality of the South Coast have inspired a conversation of mark-making between earthly bodies. Their multi-disciplinary approach spans drawing, painting, photography, and ceramic sculpture. Wiles is currently pursuing an MFA at Toi Rauwhārangi, Whiti o Rehua in Wellington
