Kate Woods was born in Tāmaki Makaurau and is based there. She holds a BFA from Elam School of Fine Arts. Woods has exhibited widely in public, private and artist-run galleries, including Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts, XYZ Creative Tokyo, and City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi. In 2012, she was the recipient of an Asia New Zealand Foundation residency at Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, Beijing.
Working across expanded photography, painting, found imagery, digital manipulation, 3D maquettes and collage, Woods creates constructed worlds that re-contextualise moments from cultural and art-historical discourse.[1] Her recent practice focuses on plant agency and art history, examining the relationship of artists and non-human entities.
