Ruth Thomas-Edmond

Ruth Thomas Edmond currently lives and works in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. She graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2005 with an MFA and subsequently taught there. She has exhibited in solo, and group shows at public and private galleries, in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally, including City Gallery, Wellington, The Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt and Suter Art Gallery, Nelson.  Her work has featured in publications such as Warwick Brown’s ‘Seen This Century: 100 Contemporary New Zealand Artists - a collector’s guide’ (2009).

Thomas-Edmond’s practice is grounded in an ongoing interest in “imperfect repetition”, expressed as small, repeated labours in two and three dimensions. In her recent work, she employs reductive shapes and forms, pattern, and a sharp colour palette to map brief and more extended moments of domestic reflection.
