Conceived as an automatic painting, Rubicon Descent draws on the cautionary symbolism of Coleridge’s ballad and considers fleeting actions that leave lasting marks on the future. A sublime pause between emotional release and the panic of unintended consequences. Falling in abstracted gestures across layers of oily-brown pigment, Rubicon Descent captures the horror of the descent, weighted by the gravity of a single irreversible action by the protagonist in Coleridge’s poem.
